Obituary for Rita Odiorne Vela

It’s with very heavy hearts we announce the death of our Mom, Rita Odiorne Vela on November 22, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a succession of illnesses.

Born on March 5,1935 in Anthony, NM. and resided in Soledad and Salinas, Ca. until 1999 when she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah . She lived at the Sarah Daft Retirement home for 18 years before moving to the City Creek Post Acute Rehab in March of 2016. Mom was on Palliative
care for a month before she entered Hospice when she died 2 days later. She maintained her sense of humor to the end and was a favorite with the staff as was evidenced by the number of staff who came to give her kisses and tearful embraces before she passed. Mom worked at Soledad Main Street School as a teacher’s aide for many years until retirement. She spoke fondly of the many people she knew from her Main St. School days. She dearly missed family
and all of the people from home who were like family in Soledad and Salinas, yet she understood that her health prevented her from moving back. She maintained her deep love for her lifelong roots in Soledad and Salinas.

Preceded in death by her parents, Aurelio and Vicenta Cadenaz. Brothers Jimmy (Anna) Cadenaz, Henry ( Josie) Cadenaz, Manuel ( Penny) Cadenaz. Survived by her daughter , Anita (Michael) Murphy, Son Frank (Christina) Solorio, sisters Lina (Angelo) Ventura, Julia ( Charles) Lopez, brother Joe (Shorty) Cadenaz, Three grandchildren: Collin Murphy, Alicia Murphy and Karen Solorio. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
We could see that you were weary and we knew that it would be a blessing for your spirit to go and leave the illnesses of your earthly body. We celebrate and honor the life of our Mom with the big personality and a heart to match. We see you in the eyes of your grandchildren and feel your presence with us, because of this you will never really leave us and we will think of you with each new snowfall because you loved the beauty in the stillness of snow falling and we’ll think of you at the sight of the twinkling city lights at night because you loved the twinkling of the lights.
Until we meet again, we give thanks for you and we send you unending love.

A memorial will be held at the Woodyard Funeral Home, in Soledad on Friday December 8,2017 from 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be held At Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church in Soledad at
